Does Your AI Just Agree With You?
Chase Chick · October 14, 2026

53% of daily AI users say that when AI was no help with something personal, it went along with them instead of engaging them.
Most of us have a friend who agrees with everything. You tell them your plan, and they love it. You tell them you were right in the argument with your sister, and of course you were. It feels good for ten minutes. Then you are back where you started.
Most of us also have the other kind of friend. The one who listens, then asks the one question you were avoiding: “What are you actually worried about here?” That friend is less comfortable to talk to. They are also the one you call when it matters.
A lot of AI behaves like the first friend. In our Vesela 2026 AI and Human Capability Report, a survey of 800 Americans who use an AI chatbot every day for personal reasons, people said so.

When AI help goes flat, it usually goes along with you
We asked what happened when AI was no help with something personal. The most common problem was not a wrong fact. It was agreeableness.

That 53% is everyone who named at least one of three ways “help” goes flat. People could pick more than one problem, so the three numbers below overlap and add up to more than 53%:
- Generic advice that could apply to anyone (33%). You share something specific and get a list that fits anyone.
- Simply agreeing with whatever they said (20%). You lay out your side, and your side sounds very reasonable.
- Handing over an answer when they needed to think it through (19%). You wanted to work it out and got a verdict.

None of these is rude or wrong, exactly, which is why they are easy to miss. But a personal decision rarely moves because of a polite yes. It moves when someone helps you see your own situation more clearly.
What people actually want from AI on a hard decision
So what do people want instead? We asked about decisions with no single right answer, where only you have the full context: whether to take the job, or how to handle a friend who keeps canceling.
63% want AI to help them work through a decision with no single right answer without telling them what to do. Just 14% want AI to outright tell them what it thinks they should do.

That 63% includes 37% who want AI to lay out the options and let them decide, and 26% who want it to ask questions until they figure out what they think.
People are not asking AI to know their lives better than they do. They are asking it to help them think.
That is the gap our team at Gray Sky AI built Vesela to fill. Vesela is an AI thought partner. It asks questions so you reach your own answer instead of being handed one.

Half of daily AI users want something different
These are people who use AI every day, by choice, and many feel something is missing.
50% want something more or different from AI than what it does today, compared to 36% who say what they use AI for is pretty much all they want.

We find that hopeful. People already know the difference between being agreed with and being helped. They want AI that thinks with them, not for them.
How to notice when your AI is just agreeing
Next time you bring something personal to an AI, ask yourself:
- Did it ask me anything? If it went straight to advice, it skipped learning what matters to you.
- Did anything surprise me? If every reply echoes what you already believed, you may be hearing your own voice back.
- Do I know what I think now? Good help leaves you clearer, not just reassured.
If the answer is no, no, and no, it might be time for the other kind of friend. You can read all the findings in the full Vesela 2026 AI and Human Capability Report.
